Connected / Alone

As technology becomes more and more prevalent in our daily lives, its effect on the human condition intensifies. This has dramatically changed human behaviour in many ways, often viewed as positive and progressive for all humanity. We are more connected than ever as a collective. However, it has also driven existing individual anxieties into the collective consciousness, giving rise to mottos such as YOLO (you only live once) and FOMO (fear of missing out). The effects of these anxieties, although driven to the surface by social media, are often unseen and hidden. This series of staged portraits investigates the effects of technology on the individual, namely: loneliness, solitude and sorrow in the digital age.
